The Yamaha Arius YDP-143 Review

As we usually do; the first thing that we are going to talk about is the design of the Yamaha Arius YDP-143. We have to say that we really were blown away by the beautiful, elegant design of this digital piano.

All in rosewood, it really does look fantastic. The black keys of the piano are finished in matt black which allowed us to get a much better grip when playing faster pieces. One of the things that really impressed us was the sheer amount of accessories that you get with this piano.

Not only do you get a piano stool, but you also get headphones, a CD, a DVD and several instructional booklets with beginners pieces and all of the tips and tricks that you could need to get started. We thought the accessories pack was a great added bonus and it was all of a really high quality.

This is a full size digital piano with 88 Graded Hammer Standard keys which really do feel incredibly realistic in comparison to a grand piano. Below the Yamaha Arius YDP-143 you will find three pedals; a damper pedal, a sostenuto pedal and a soft pedal.

We tried all of these out and found them especially helpful for emulating the grand piano sound whilst performing live. Another thing that we really liked is the fact that the keys are velocity sensitive. This means that they can be played harder or softer for different effects.

If you are a piano teacher, or you are a student who is planning on hiring a piano teacher, then you will really benefit from the duo mode. With this mode, the 88 keys are split identically down the middle so that the student can play along with the teacher.

We tested out all of the different sounds that the piano can produce. Whilst we were very impressed with the 192 note polyphony; we did find that the 10 demo voices were a little limited. However, we were very impressed with the sound quality that was produced via the built in speakers and two amplifiers.

The only real downside with this piano is that it is one of the more expensive options. However, if you are trying to get the feel and sound of a genuine grand piano then this is definitely one of the better options on the market and we would certainly recommend it.
